The
Costello family vineyard is located the Shaw’s
Flat area of Tuolumne County nestled between the historic
gold rush towns of Columbia and Sonora.
The elevation is 2150’ asl and enjoys a southern
setting maximizing the spring and fall exposure
to the California sun.
Water is provided by the ‘Shaws Flat Ditch’
which is part of the historic waterways built to
provide water to the early California mines, mills,
ranches and vineyards. We are stingy with water
and our drip system allows us to control this very
closely.
We are proud of our 1.5 acres of Merlot, 1 acre
of Zinfandel and 4 acres of Sangiovese. While this
vineyard is small when compared to typical California
vineyards we take full advantage of our ability
to personally attend to each vine.
We believe 90% of the quality of the wine is achieved
by good vineyard practices.
